This is interesting. I feel sorry for boys who have to deal with the current system of school exams in Britain. I certainly would have performed poorly under it. Counting coursework in exam scores is a cheats’ charter. Plodding and “sharing answers” are rewarded. Originality and competitiveness are penalized.

No way!!! Coursework is a far better representation of what you know and how well you can apply it. Exams are just how good you are at reguritating what your teacher has told you to write in your exam (I know I did my GCSE’s more recently than you – in fact weren’t they O-levels for you?). For coursework you actually have to understand what it is you are writing about.
