Ah yes, the beatification of Emperor “mustard gas” himself! The Archbishop Emeritus of Birmingham (his last posting was at St. Eds in Cambs, and therefore Fisher House — near the Cow Pub — which is the place to be for Cambs Catholics) was just in Manila last month and he told my mum: “I don’t have the foggiest why they’re beatifying him!”
JP2, incidentally, has beatified and canonized more people than any other pope in history.
Am currently in Venice, after coming from Rome-Assissi-Florence-Padua
and enjoying the sunny weather, the food and the Italian men. Sure, I know they’d leave me in a nanosecond… but crikey they’re good looking!
