Back in September I picked up on Alex Tew’s milliondollarhomepage idea of selling advertising space by the pixel. Just as he planned, he’s approaching dollar millionairehood.
This guy takes the pixel thing a step further…
SaveMyPenis.com.
A little nutty, but I got a laugh from the blog entries.
The thousands of copy-cats that appeared after milliondollarhomepage made it big won’t get too far since the idea of selling pixels is no longer novel! But now this site has popped up:
Claiming to “change the way advertising works”, OnlyOneAd.com is selling only one ad. That’s right, there is only space for ONE ad on the page. The first ad costs $1. To replace the ad, the next advertiser must pay $2. After that, it costs $4, and so on. Each new ad costs twice the amount of the previous ad. That means the 21st ad costs over one million dollars. The creator seems convinced he can reach his goal, which actually seems possible if he can generate enough buzz. He’s keeping a detailed blog, and so far only the 1st ad has sold for $1! How is this going to turn out?

Established Website Sells Pixel Ads on Ebay
ItsTeens.com is taking pixel advertising to the next level by integrating it on a content based popular website.
Toronto — Canada – ItsTeens.com, a site developed six years ago by a 17 year old young entrepreneur is now auctioning a limited quantity of pixel ad space on ebay. Graphic banner advertising is nothing new to the internet but pixel advertising is new. Company logos/images will be advertised in the pixel ad space purchased on the homepage of the established teen portal, ItsTeens.com.
The term “pixel advertising” may never have been heard before Alex Tew, a young entrepreneur from UK came up with the milliondollarhomepage.com.
ItsTeens.com is taking pixel advertising to the next level by integrating it on an established content based teen portal. These pixel ads will be displayed on the homepage for the next two years. Unlike newly launched pixel ad sites, ItsTeens.com has taken this slightly different angle to attract businesses looking to advertise on popular websites that offer targeted traffic. Content based popular websites will continue to have visitors even after the media stops coverage about this new form of advertisement.
This young entrepreneur who maintained the website for the past six years is about to enter into higher education. The money generated through this pixel ad sale will go toward maintaining this website to help many other teens that will follow her foot steps.
Visit http://www.itsteens.com for auction details.
If I was the type to buy pixel ads, which I’m not, I might go for Company Battleships cos at least there’s a bit of programming behind it.
I’m happy for mr Tew and for all his copycats.
Anyway I think that pixels suck!

Boogami versus Google
Can a search engine built by a sixteen year old English student really compete with Google? It would appear to be an emphatic yes if Boogami continues to grow in the same way.
Only a month after James Wildish the sixteen year old Kent student launched his search engine Boogami, http://www.boogami.com he has added a number of innovative features to help small businesses profit from the internet. With the UK facing a potential recession and high street sales down by 3.9% in June, internet sales are reported to have increased by 38% over the last six months. This is where Boogami can help small businesses target their markets and profit from the people looking for internet bargains.
The first search engine to provide pixel adverts that are displayed every time someone uses Boogami to search the internet; James has now come up with two more innovative marketing features making his search engine totally different to any other search engine. “Boogami Doorways” and “Pay Per Enquiry” advertising are both unique features he has added to his search engine and are likely to revolutionise search engine marketing.
James says. “I know how difficult it is for small businesses to establish themselves on the internet and compete with the large companies who have deep pockets and are able to invest heavily in advertising and marketing with the big search engines. It means they struggle to be found by surfers; and people using the internet find it difficult to source products and services from small companies that offer a personal service or cheaper product. The internet is not a level playing field and I want Boogami to be a search engine that offers all businesses and not just the large companies a fair crack of the whip. I think Boogami Doorways will offer internet users a far more pleasurable experience and provide a service that deliver results they would not normally find through other search engines.”
• Boogami Doorways enable anyone who can type and click to build web pages that can be optimised for their keywords and found by all the search engines. Doorways can be used to launch a new internet business or linked into any existing website that is struggling to be found on other search engines. Costing as little as 60p per day Boogami doorways make it possible for anyone with aspirations to start an internet business easily affordable.
• PPE (Pay per enquiry advertising) is aimed at businesses offering higher value products and services. Home improvement companies, wedding planners, overseas property agents and any business looking for qualified sales enquiries can benefit by only paying for sales leads. Although James has added PPC (pay per click advertising) to his search engine, he sees pay per enquiry as an alternative that some companies will prefer, rather than each time someone visits their website by clicking on his sponsored adverts.
• FREE Charity pixels –any charity can take advantage of free advertising on the charity pixels page and James has other ideas he is developing to help charities and good causes.
James is keen to stress that this is just the start and has far bigger plans to make Boogami a major search engine and a real alternative to Google.
He says “Once things took off and I knew I had a success on my hands the ideas just came from all directions. I am working on a number of innovative features that will bring more people to Boogami and want them to keep coming back and this will give my advertisers a good return on their investment. I started out by wanting to help my family but I realise now that I can also help small businesses and have plans to build in other free services that will help charities and society in general. If Boogami continues to grow I can use it to benefit a lot of people and good causes. Boogami is not a public company that is answerable to its shareholders; I can develop it in anyway I see fit and don’t have to wait until I have made millions to start sharing my success.”
James is playing his cards close to his chest and we will have to wait to see what else he has planned. He feels that a search engine should be socially responsible and wants to start out by developing ideas that can benefit good causes and society rather than developing the ideas further down the line. The idea of a young man competing with Google would normally be preposterous but James has already built a search engine that is capturing high levels of traffic and in a month already launched some innovative features making Boogami unique amongst the other search engines who all copy each other. If his future plans are even more innovative, we could be looking at a truly philanthropic internet millionaire.
