Talking of recycling, it looks like producer Timbaland has some explaining to do to a Finnish computer musician about a backing track that Mr Land laid down for Nelly Furtado. [The previous link goes to YouTube, but you can follow these links to MP3s of the tunes.]
There’s something amusing about a deep-voiced multimillionaire hip-hop svengali who loves to show off his trunk-like arms and scowl in photos taking inspiration—if that’s what he did—from a Finnish kid who makes his/her music with crappy 80s home computers.
And you know already how I feel about the output of Nelly Furtado.
I know it’s wrong, but I have a crush on Timbaland. As for Nelly, the lyrics to that song are so ridiculous that they should push me to the point of rage, but I’d be lying if I said Powerless hadn’t ever enjoyed pride of place on my mp3 player.
Timbaland? Nelly Furtado? Pah! What is it about my favourite blogs that you are all whittering on about some drivelling crap that passes for music? Surely anyone with ANY taste knows that REAL music stopped with the Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac?
Incidentally have you seen this? That lopsided grin looks sorta familiar to me. You seem an ok chap for a (SPIT!) New Labour supporter, but we should know, have you ever woken up with an urge to invade Iraq?

I quite liked Timbuctoo’s early work with Missy Elliot and the Magoo album, but the story I heard was that his ‘beatz’ were nabbed from Kraftwerk’s motorik sounds, slowed down then amplified.
Compare and contrast with the beats on Portishead’s ‘Dummy’, which are the same as Roni Size’s debut album only slowed down (according to the drummer who played on both).
Nelly just plain rocks!
BTW, I just found a neat Nelly site with all her story detailed. Lots of interesting and unrevealed things in there.

I should warn anyone visiting the site linked to above by Laurence the Bot that, when you click on the “ENTER” link, Ms Furtado does indeed enter from the left of your screen at frightening speed. When the photo of her has zoomed into place you’ll notice that in it she looks exactly like a three-times North of England Latin Ballroom Dancing Champion.
