As an “adorable half-caste African”, I have been far too slow to ‘Blog this one. The Guardian dents what could have been a funny, understated report by resorting to this clumsy smear:
“[Princess Michael] was born Marie-Christine von Reibnitz, daughter of an Austrian father with connections to the Nazi party.”
yo dude i need sum help! is it normal 4 me 2 feel uncomfortable bein mixd race? plz rite bck
The Commission for Racial Equality said it did not consider half-caste an “acceptable” word for a person whose parents are of different races.
I was wondering when the CRE will consider the word “race” not to be an acceptable word for people with minor variations in DNA. I’d really be interested how the CRE actually determines “different races”.
“is it normal 4 me 2 feel uncomfortable bein mixd race?”
A lot of mixed-race people feel uncomfortable with the way they are. I’m ashamed to say that the some of the things I experienced when I was growing up made me want to be white. If you feel uncomfortable the way you are, it’s probably because someone else has a problem, not because you do. I didn’t even know I was different until other children started telling me there was something “wrong” with the way my skin or hair or lips looked. There wasn’t. There was something wrong with the way they were looking at me.
These days I’m glad I’m not white and I’m glad I’m not black. I’m glad that I change colour with the seasons. I’m glad that I look younger than my age. I’m glad that I can shave my thinning curls off and look fine. I’ll also be glad when I’m old enough and weird enough to grow a fringe of funky grey dreads around my bald patch. I’m glad that my niece has blue eyes and blonde hair, but I’m also glad that her lips are full and that she has a big soft afro.
Now, I’m pleased to say, most people don’t really care what race I am, and many people I meet have no idea. I was introduced to an Indian lecturer last week and the first thing she said to me was, “Where are you from?” When I teasingly asked her what she meant she said, “You look like you could be from any country in the World.” I’m comfortable with that. Even if you aren’t at the moment, you will be.
“plz rite bck”
If you email me I promise I’ll reply.
INTERRACIAL MIXING IS WRONG
AND THAT SHIT SHOULD END!
EACH ONE TO THEIR OWN
WHITE TO WHITES
BLACK TO BLACKS
AFRICANS FOR AFRICANS
That’s what I keep telling my family, dee, but they won’t listen to me. Just look at the horrible consequences of their unnatural blending of blood.
I am so impressed w/ your gentle responses to the ignorance that still lingers out there in our melting pot of a world! I am not mixed race but my daughter is and my son also and I cannot understand how anyone could ever feel that any child is wrong!!! We are God’s Children …
Jesus loves all the little children…. of the world.
Smile! Much Love!
Peace, Love, and Happiness
Thank you, Emocean. And the same to you!
That entire article was humours. From the Princesses patronizing ignorance, to the writers not so subtle “Nazi” drop, to the final injection of wisdom from the commission of racial equality regarding the use of the term “half caste”.
Btw, your nice is Adorable.
