I’m not going to share my thoughts on this one with you lot yet, except to link to this post on Black Triangle, but I’d like to read yours about these following plans of mine.
I intend to put advertisements on the Wedding Photography Blog and on another potentially money-making blog that I have started (but isn’t yet ready for public consumption so I haven’t linked to)…so…
Which Web ad services do you recommend?
Or do you think I should deal direct? (For example: I’ve been known to pick up a Nikon, but since I only use Minolta gear professionally, the current owners of Minolta’s camera technology, Sony, might be prepared to pay for an exclusive banner—especially if I really sell out and get one of these.)
How do you feel about my putting advertisements on PooterGeek?
Time is valuable Pooter.
We don’t pay to read, so no one can complain about a few unobtrusive ads. Credibility is over-rated. I use Adsense and its ok, average about £60 a month, it’s not a lot, pocket money I guess. Certainly covers server and domain costs.
Camera manufacturers seems a good idea for the wedding photography blog.

i have absolutely no issue with people advertising on their blogs – i’m getting free information and entertainment from their site so why shouldn’t the author attempt to make some money from it. the suitability / morality of the adverts is a matter for the blog owner’s conscience.
£60 a month from AdSense ?!?
I never got that as a child, even accounting for inflation.
I just don’t think the money you’ll make will be worth your time. I can hook you up with the guys at Commission Junction, though, if you want.
As long as there are no awful pop-up porn ads, I’m fine with it – you have to get some sort of reward for all that hard work scouring the internets for us.
How about popup Nigella porn?
Nah, you don’t want a Sony DSLR. If you’re going to spend money on a DSLR, get a Canon. The Sony DSC-R1 is a better buy IMO: not an SLR, but performs like an entry-level SLR with live preview.
Not that you’d need one of them anyway.
Thank you for all the comments. You lot have completely confused me now. I’ll do some more thinking.
Canons are nice, Tim, but the reason why I might choose a Sony dSLR is that the lenses I’ve already invested in will only fit a Minolta or Sony body and they don’t make Minoltas any more.
Adsense: $1 to $ 2 per thousand page views. Maybe $3 on a good day.
Blogads? About $150 a month for me.
[…] This is probably as far as I am going to sell out PooterGeek in the immediate future, though I have toyed with the idea of installing a GeekCam and selling subscriber access to exciting 24-hour inter-racial nude keyboarding action. […]
