Even the Nazis didn’t put artists out of work.
— Andrew Keen, author of The Cult Of The Amateur: How Today’s Internet Is Killing Our Culture and Assaulting Our Economy, talking about the Internet, one minute into this interview
The advantage of the Internet, as Keen reveals in the title of his book, is that, when people say things this stupid and ignorant online, they usually don’t expect us to pay them.
I have never heard of “degenerate art” or of artists, musicians, and film-makers fleeing the NSDAP’s intellectual property-based utopia.
Keen’s comments therefore seem entirely un-batshit.
I read a review of Keen’s book somewhere, and it’s so plainly wrong that noone with any sense will read it.
There’s a formula for bestsellers in there somewhere though.
