I’ve been on those roads and lived to tell the tale. They are almost as bad at driving as we are at loosing.
Bad at losing? We are the masters. We can turn a one-nil lead against anyone into heart-breaking defeat.
And my experience of Portuguese roads is still with me today, years after rattling around them for a few days in a minibus with my friends' wedding party.
It is a bit like watching England play, though: sudden death always seems to be waiting after the next corner.
Or very close in the rear view mirror.
