There’s a headline to put alongside “Microsoft acknowledge importance of Internet, release Explorer Web browser”; Sony have also been years too late, but they don’t have a monopoly they can use to crush the opposition anyway. Perhaps they can take advantage of the 80s revival instead and release a portable MP3 player that looks like an early Walkman.
Not sure you’re right there – they’re pretty much the first entrants other than Apple that understand how to make things that are pretty (rather than being IT hardware companies, who don’t).
Unlike 2-3 years ago, the average new MP3 player buyer doesn’t really understand anything about the technology. Sony’s a brand they’ll recognise, the player will look good, and it’ll be cheaper than an iPod…
Although the entire market will disappear when someone notices that we’re already carrying around tiny audio-enabled battery-powered computers called ‘mobile phones’…
