It is with great sadness…blah…blah…
In exactly two month’s time the Medical Research Council will be shutting down the place where I work. This is inconvenient because I’ve still got a lot of work to do. Over the next few weeks something’s got to go and it’s going to be PooterGeek.
I’ll keep the comments open for a fortnight or so. Otherwise, feel free to use the email link across there -> to send your plaudits, promises of sexual favours, messages of sympathy, cash pledges, and job offers.
You lot have often been wonderful Net friends and I have appreciated (the majority of) your contributions. I might be back, but not as Governor of California.
You’ll be intensely missed. Good luck with the work.
eve
Quitter.
Hope you get back soon. A million parodies are still to be written.
Noooooooooooooooooooooo!
Come back soon, Geek, we need your insight and humour. Well, I do 🙂
Morgs
PS – Go back to that woman you fancied while you were out canvassing for the Labour Party and ask her out. The worst words in the English Language aren’t as Seinfeld says ‘we need to talk’, but ‘if only…’
Haste ye back.
Oh no!
How dare you. You’re one of the best, funniest, quirkiest, and most reliable reads.
I hope you find something lucrative to do very quickly, and return to the “air”waves. (Wirewaves? Netwaves?).
Aw ra best.
That’s a real shame as I had only recently discovered this blog!! Hope it all goes well in the future for you.
Surely bloggery is more important than the MRC? Oh well.
Ave atque vale.
What they all said, and then some! And there were you wondering why *we* didn’t post more … Wouldn’t a weekly round-up of abbreviated notes and comments be better than nothing at all?
How many comments will it take to make you reconsider? A busy patch is one thing…but you have to come back.
Thank you all for the kind words. When you put yourself online, taking yourself offline is like staging your own funeral. It’s nice that you’ve not just come to bury me.
Extensive listening to black box flight recorders has shown that the worst words in the English language are in fact: “Oh, shit. I wish I hadn’t done that.”
The MRC pays for the roof over my head, my food, my clothes (both gay and straight), and my novelty ringtones. Bloggery pays bugger all.
‘Hey, man. Just try one more hit. It’s not like you’re an addict or anything.’ It’s cold turkey for me, I’m afraid. There are going to be a lot of late nights for me between now and the end of July and they won’t be spent writing a rap version of the Chancellor’s Budget speech or scripting an imaginary encounter between George Bush and Osama bin Laden as a 70s kung fu movie.
If I can sort out everything I need to in my real life then I’ll revive the ‘Blog, but I have a huge amount to do and I can only do it by concentrating absolutely. ‘Blogging is intrinsically distracting.
Come back here once a month or read the ‘Blogs on my ‘Blog roll. If I return I’ll let them all know to tell you.
Thank you again. You are lovely, lovely people.
Yah kidding, right?
Dammit, Damian. Are you going to keep the same email address? I’ll drop you a line at some point.
Make sure you come back, yeah? I’m gonna keep your link up in anticipation.
I am. The “email me” link from the front page of PooterGeek will remain active too.
Feel free to.
I hope I will, but I’m making no promises.
I shall miss not reading you, Damian. I hope it’s only for a while. I am a regular visitor to this site and want it back. Good luck and best wishes.
Should have said, I shall miss reading you, Damian. Bloody writers, eh!
Tell you what’s spooky, George: I found that missing copy of An English Apocalypse about three hours ago.
So am I and so do I 🙂 . Perhaps my already-overdue review of your book will be the first thing I post when (if) I restart.
All the best for the future….. will keep coming back, and hope to read your next post soon.
Gobsmacked! Come back soon, the Geek!
That’s a real shame, the world/blogosphere will be much the duller.
Sad to see you go Damian, take care and keep in touch! (PS you would have loved Hitch at the Hay Book Festival today)
A little farewell tribute on my own site, Damian. It’s vaguely sad, as the young might say, all this virtual company in webworld, but it’s consolation too.
Sob! Wishing you a swift return – the blogosphere needs all the sensible bloggers we can get.
Good luck and come back soon! Though I’m sure you’ll be back.
Good luck boyo, you were sometimes wrong but usually entertaining. If you come back, don’t forget to get rid of that weird McDonalds cup banner!
Bummer dude, I enjoyed the laughs – and you were more often right than wrong!
I know I’m banned but I thought I would say farewell and good luck.
I’m not banned. How do I get banned? I want to make comment like DD above.
Seriously, so long, and thanks for all the laughs. Hope you surface again.
I know Cloud has been a big fan of yours, and as such, I have often kept up with your savvy humour and insight.
You’ll be missed.
Regards
Lisa of the Rullsenberg
I’ve barely been blogging myself in recent months but I admire your courage in (you claim) quitting cold turkey. I’ll miss this blog of yours. But my prediction is that you are one infuriating/frightening/exciting/Nigella-related news event away from strapping yourself back in the turret. I will look forward to that inevitable moment.
I can’t believe it. Just returned from a break to read this shocking news. I love reading your blog – it’s not often you read one written by such a funny, smart, insightful and articulate guy. If only I weren’t already married ……!
Typical youngster………………no staying power!
It is with great sadness that I delete you from my favourite blogs list. This is one time when your post was not entertaining………Good luck, you will always be welcomed back.
I exercise my right to be petulant! So though I know how necessary it is for you to focus on what you’re doing now, I curse you to the ends of time so that feel a longing to blog, returning to your PC like a needy lover.
I loved being able to catch up with your life and thoughts on line, and I shall miss being able to take you for granted. 🙂
