This story appeared on the BBC News Website yesterday:
“Pakistan’s government is to remove a poem from a school textbook after it emerged the first letters of each line spelt out “President George W Bush”.
“The anonymous poem, called The Leader, appeared in a recent English-language course book for 16 year-olds. “
The Pakistani authorities don’t know who wrote the poem, but I’d be tempted to put a bet on this man. He’s got form.
I was seriously thinking about using this method to send a message to an irritating colleague in the next edition of my company’s catalogue.
But perhaps the “amazing coincidence” excuse won’t wash with management after all.
I spent a good couple of hours once trying to work a hidden message into a promotional blurb I had to write for a film that I utterly loathed – but then the deadline struck so I had to abandon the idea. Probably wisely, all things considered.
