Today’s Economist reveals that one of the few Conservative parties in the European Parliament prepared to line up with David Cameron over the creation of a new Right grouping is the Polish Law and Justice Party, known by the acronym “PiS”. Its leader recently tried to stop a gay rights march in Warsaw. It wants to ban abortion and bring back the death penalty. It is “a great admirer” of the Common Agricultural Policy and supports state intervention in the economy. Is this the stupidest party in Europe? (Neo-fascists don’t count: they’re not simply dumb; they’re evil.)

You mean “except for New Labour”?
No, the stupidest part is Old Labour – currently attempting to make the Labour Party unelectable again.
Oh Pooter Pooter Geek Geek Geek you are usually so right, but here you are so wrong.
Yes, PiS are stupid, but they are far from being the stupidist (or most misguided) party in the current Polish Government. The “League of Polish Families” (Hail Mary, Beat The Jews) and “Self-Defence” (Throw potatoes at urban folk, Beat the Jews) are far worse.
The story about one or other of the deeply reactionary twins (the Prsident, I think) threatening to sue a German newspaper after it referred to him as a “potato” maybe backs up your case, though. Mind you, I can see the resemblance.
Note – those parties i refer to are not neo-fascist (even if elements of them may well be evil): having an ideology would be too complex for them to handle.
Although (now you mention it) and overlooking that I am breaking all netiquette by doing 3 posts in a row, you could say that PiS are stupider for forming an alliance with those parties, especially when there was a (far more popular than the other 2) reasonable centre-rightist party (Civic Platform) that they could have formed a much more coherent alliance with. So maybe you’re right.
Nope. The stupidist party is whoever these mooks beat to get into the EP.
